And the Winner Is...

The winner for possibly the best background stitch EVER is Donna F. with this great heart pattern adorning my "No Place Like Home" canvas:

And this one wins the "best background in a needlepointing photo" award!  This is my favorite picture ever!  If Polly V. did not take home a prize from the fair for either her pig or her needlepoint I hope she'll take mine as a consolation prize!  The canvas is my Pink Punkin Halloween Cottage, available with kit and stitch guide from Chandail.

Some Great New Stitches!

People have been busy stitching bees this summer so far, here are some great stitches of my canvases, soon to be on their way to the finishers:

Paula B. stitched this fabulous rendition of Pirate Mermaid, doesn't it look great?

Andrea A. completed her CandyLand Christmas so quickly I could hardly believe my eyes!  Love the background stitches on this one!

Barb W. gets a ton of stitching done while she travels, she just completed one of the designs from my Stitch a Falling Star club:

I'm sneaking in a stitched and finished one too, this is one of my Thistle Hill ornaments stitched by Ann T.:

Rose & Butterfly, Beautiful Summer Design!

My friend Lesa F. stitched this gorgeous version of my Rose & Butterfly canvas, which to me just looks like summer with all those warm colors!  She did the rose in Padded Satin, using Neon Rays too, which is not an easy feat.  It came out beautiful!!

This photo shows the padding stitches before it was stitched over:

Hey Y'all!

My friend Sandy stitched my "Hey Y'all" Texas state ornament and turned it into a frame-able piece by adding a background and a great border using a color coordinated variegated thread.  It really turned out great!

And speaking of ornaments, here's a big batch of Bejeweled Bargello ornaments fresh from TJ's finishing:

A Finish and an Almost!

My friend Martha J. finished her "So Happy" recently, with lots of great personal touches as usual!  Love how it came out:

And this almost finished is Jan K.'s, who is stitching it in Carolyn Hedge Baird's class at the Chaparral here in Houston:

Can't wait to see both of these again when they are finished-finished!

It's a Party!

It's a Peacock Party that is! There are now two great stitch guides for this canvas, the latest one was created by Sharon Quick:

I think this is so fabulous!  Lots of bling and fun stitches and did I say bling??  I have seen the actual stitch guide too and it is extremely high quality-- color pictures and numbered stitch graphs along with easy to read clear instructions.  If you would like to order a stitch guide for yourself, contact Sharon on her Facebook page.
Robin King also has a guide for this design, and sadly I don't have a photo because I am the model stitcher for it and I haven't finished it, bad on me!  Not for lack of fun, just lack of time!  Robin's guide is also excellent and loaded with fun techniques, to order email her at

Souvenir Canvases

I love canvases that commemorate an event, memory or place.  This is a canvas I painted as a souvenir for of a group of friends who I go to a stitching retreat with at The Liberty Hotel in Cleburne, TX a few times a year. I stitched the one on the top and gave it to the hotel staff for their Christmas tree. My friend Linda stitched the one below and she made a very nice job of it too!

I also painted a souvenir canvas for our favorite needlework shop, also located in Cleburne, Fancy Stitches.  This one was stitched by shop teacher Cynthia:

I also have a series of canvases painted for the annual Needlepoint Love Story at Thistle Hill in Fort Worth.  These are the first 3 in that series:

And this is the 2017 one:

Thanks so much to Sally, Sualice, Suzy, Naomi and French Knot for their great work on the Thistle Hill ornament series!

Bargello Hearts in Needlepoint Now!

The Jan/Feb 2017 issue of Needlepoint Now features my newest design, Bargello Hearts.  It's a fun to stitch canvas work piece using delicious colors of Silk & Ivory thread, accented with some sequins and crystals, of course.  The finished design is the perfect size for a tool tote pouch as shown here.

More Custom Heart Ornaments!

I have two more new designs, both heart-shape ornaments in the spirit of what I have done for Thistle Hill.  These designs are exclusively for Fancy Stitches, the first design depicts the shop itself, the second is the Liberty Hotel, also located in Cleburne, TX and familiar to many who have visited the shop.  Cynthia, who stitched my Falling Stars club, has stitched the Fancy Stitches heart and of course she has written up a stitch guide too!  Just give the shop a call at 817 641 4761 to order your canvas today!

Happy New Year, A Little Bit Late!

Better late than ever though, right?  My holiday season was exceptionally chaotic as it coincided with selling our house!  I'll be moving soon and am really looking forward to being settled again.  In the meantime, there is a LOT of EyeCandy things going on.  The 4th chapter of Thistle Hill's "A Needlepoint Love Story" is coming up on February 22nd to the 26th and once again I am very happy to have created brand new ornament to commemorate this year's chapter.  This design features an interior view of Thistle Hill, the grand staircase, complete with stockings!  In past exhibits, the house's many running feet of stair rails have been absolutely covered by the dozens and dozens of stockings sent in for display and I found that hugely inspirational for this year's ornament.  I hope you will get a chance to visit in person to see this grand home covered in exquisite needlepoint!

Click to visit the Needlepoint Love Story's official Facebook page!

The 2017 Ornament:

Here are the ornaments from the past three year's exhibits, all of these are still available and can be ordered via Historic Fort Worth.
